Increased at high elevations in freezing cold, the alpaca has established more thermal ability in its fiber than practically any type of various other animal, creating garments that offer featherweight heat. 1. Read in a book (from New Zealand authors) on Wool spinning (how to make yarn…) that if a shrunk sweater , can soak in Epsom salts as the magnesium in it relaxes the fiber s of wool .

  2. I wonder if lanolin would work. I think its the oil that is naturally in wool that is used in other things like cosmetics. Think its sold somewhere and would be good for loosening the fibers.

  3. Thanks for the info I will try it on an XL that I found. The Military sweaters are generally cut smaller to give a more fit look rather than a baggy appearance. The tighter look is better for inspections.

  4. When I joined the military in the early 2000s, the was issuing black wool berets.  To form a new beret, you soaked it in water, placed it on your head, stretched it into shape, and then (lastly) shaved it to smoothen the wool  out.  You then let the beret dry (or at least mostly dry) on your head.  I suspect you could do the same thing with a wool sweater.  Soak it, put it on, stretch it as needed, and let it dry to the shape of your body.  Might be worth a try!
